I love the Spider-Man 2 Movie and wanted to create the helmet that Peter wears in 3D.
I used PureRef to gather all of my references for the helmet and organize them in a way that would best work for me. A section for the movie stills, a section for material references, and a section for the thumbnail references. There's more to the references but I cut them off as they are related to the rest of the apartment scene.
I used Maya for all modeling purposes as well as sculpting the detail on flap. Creating the high poly, the low poly, doing the UV's, and making the material ID versions of this model to make baking and texturing easier on myself. I created this version with the strap down as I intend to have it sit on a milk crate, matching the scene in the film.
In Substance Painter, I baked with material ID's as this would also help my texturing, as I could add a fill layer and mask it to the areas I thought would be best related to one another. All of this was done on a single 2048x2048 as I figured it would make a great hero prop in my scene later.
I used Marmoset for lighting and taking screenshots of my prop. I experimented with lighting scenarios until I found one that would best capture the helmet and match the world I wanted it to exist in.
Many thanks to Jose Mundo for his mentorship through this and for letting me borrow his eyes when mine grew tired from looking at this.
